Congratulations, you have been successful in securing an interview for that dream job you want so bad. Take a few moments, the dread and nervous butterflies will be with you in just a moment.

Interviews are daunting for the best of us, trust me I interview people every day!! The best way to beat nerves is to be prepared and know what you are going to talk about.

Step 1 – Do your research

By this stage of the process you have at least read a job ad, hopefully checked out the company’s website and if you’re lucky you’ve had access to a PD or had further conversations with a recruiter. Look the company and employees up on social media as well.

There is always more information to find if you are determined to seek it out.

Step 2 – Know your resume

There is nothing worse than interviewing people that can’t tell me when they worked at certain jobs or get mixed up about what roles they did and where…. so, know your stuff!

It is after all, your career history.

Step 3 – Plan your outfit

Think about the business and the industry and make sure you dress appropriately. If all else fails, business attire won’t let you down.

Step 4 – Q & A

Make sure you have some good questions ready for your interview. You will almost always get asked at the end of your interview if you have any questions. For the love of god, make sure you have some ready to go!!

You’ve researched, make sure they know you have by asking things that might be relevant to what you found on social media and their website.

Ideas to get your started –

  1. Ask how this role fits in with the rest of the team.
  2. Ask about workplace culture.
  3. Ask the interviewer what they like about working there.
  4. Ask about big picture vision and goals for the organisation as a whole.

Step 5 – Get a good night sleep

Let your mind and body rest and trust that you’ve done everything you can.

Step 6 – Believe in yourself!!

You are now as prepared as you are ever going to be – don’t underestimate the effect confidence can have and work it!!

Before you walk in, take 3 deep breaths, centre yourself and know that you’ve got this!!

Good Luck!!
